To the ancient voyagers of the ocean, that saw it’s endless body not as a barrier but as bridge from one place to the next. Those who sailed night and day through waters far from home. Whose knowledge was passed down in both action and stories, from one generation to the next. To the people that continue these traditions, crafting new journeys that allow the world to be connected beyond technological webs. To the modern navigator, who sets foot into uncharted spaces. The universities, laboratories, and political seats that were unattainable to those before us. May we carry on the stories, bring in our traditional knowledges, move it forward into new directions, and remember that we are all connected one way or another. To the individuals always looking towards the northern star, searching for their own voyage, may you find what you are looking for.

Not all of us are fortunate enough to live by the ocean. I hope, in our own ways, we can find solutions to the many problems impacting the communities that continue to live off of it. For some people, #oceanday is everyday.
